My husband loves his browned butter chocolate chip cookies. He has always been an avid chocolate chip cookie fan, but after I tried them with browned butter he doesn’t want them any other way. All that to say, for Valentine’s this year I decided to make him a personal browned butter chocolate chip skillet cookie. I was quite pleased with how simple but pretty they turned out to be, not to mention absolutely delicious while still warm and topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream! Do yourself and your loved one a favor, give these a go for a romantic date night in or really, for any special occasion!

His and Hers Valentine’s Skillet Cookies
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup salted butter
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1-1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour *see note
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt scant
- 1/2 cup Valentine's themed M&Ms
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees:
- Place butter into a medium sized saucepan. Allow the butter to cook over medium heat until it has fully melted and has a deep brown color and nutty aroma. Stir occasionally to keep the butter from burning. Allow the browned butter to cool completely and thicken slightly.
- Whisk the eggs and sugar together until thick and creamy, then mix in the cooled browned butter and vanilla extract.
- Add flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt, then mix well until no streaks of flour remain. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and M&Ms.
- Grease two small 6 1/2-inch cast iron skillets with cooking spray or butter (*see note). Divide the dough between the two skillets and spread until evenly covering the skillet. Bake the skillet cookies in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until golden and set. For a softer set cookie, you can bake just until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a little moist crumb remaining. Do not overbake.
- Top the warm skillet cookies with additional chocolate chips and M&Ms if desired, then serve with ice cream or milk and enjoy! Storage notes below.

Ingredients you will need for these Valentine’s Day themed skillet cookies: butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, egg, vanilla extract, flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, Valentine’s themed M&Ms and chocolate chips.
Where to find Valentine’s themed M&Ms?
Honestly I struggled a bit to find M&Ms in pink in my small hometown. Walmart normally has them, but you may need to ask an associate to locate them. I found my M&Ms at our local Giant Eagle grocery store (I literally took the last pack from the shelf), so other larger grocery store chains should have them. If you simply can’t find them, feel free to use other M&Ms or just the chocolate chips if desired. You can also toss in your favorite candies to make the skillet cookies extra fun!

Step 1-2: Place butter into a medium sized saucepan. Allow the butter to cook over medium heat until it has fully melted and has a deep brown color and nutty aroma. Stir occasionally to keep the butter from burning. Allow the browned butter to cool completely and thicken slightly. Whisk the eggs and sugar together until thick and creamy, then mix in the cooled browned butter and vanilla extract.
Notes on the browned butter:
Be sure to keep a close eye on the butter during the browning process. I like my butter to be fairly dark for more flavor. It is even ok to have some blackened flecks in it if you happen to leave it on that long. When the butter has adequately browned, allow it to cool (I usually set the pan in several inches of ice water to speed up the process) until the butter is cool to touch and has thickened up a bit again. Do not add the browned butter while hot, because it can disturb the texture of the cookie.

Step 3: Add flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt, then mix well until no streaks of flour remain. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and M&Ms.
Flour note*
Be careful not to add to much flour at first. Add the last 1/4 cup slowly and as needed to ensure the cookie dough does not get too dry. The dough should be soft, but no longer sticking to your hands when rolled into a ball.

Step 4: Grease two small 6-inch cast iron skillets (*see note) with cooking spray or butter. Divide the dough between the two skillets and spread until evenly covering the skillet.
Can I use other cast iron skillet sizes?
Yes, you can. I would suggest a 10-12- inch. If you have a size that does not fit this amount of dough, you can always double the recipe or reduce the dough as needed. You can bake some cookies on a cookie sheet with this dough if you find your skillet is too small to hold all the dough.

Step 4 continued: Bake the skillet cookies in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until golden and set. For a softer set cookie, you can bake just until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a little moist crumb remaining. Do not overbake.

Final steps: Serve the warm skillet cookie with a scoop (or 3) of ice cream or milk. A burst of pure yum!
Storage notes:
Leftovers can be tightly wrapped and stored at room temperature for several days. To store leftovers longer I would suggest freezing them in airtight containers to keep the cookie from drying out. My favorite way to enjoy leftover skillet cookie is to pop it into the microwave for 10-20 seconds, then add ice cream or a glass of milk.
Thank you for stopping by and happy Valentine’s Day. May you feel the love of Christ during this holiday!
