- 6 large Russet or Idaho potatoes *see note
- 1-2 garlic cloves (optional)
- 2 chicken bouillon cubes
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 oz. cream cheese
- 1/4-3/4 cup warmed milk *see note
- 6 tablespoons butter (divided)
Optional topping:
- 1 teaspoon finely chopped chives

- Brown two tablespoons of butter and place potatoes into a serving bowl. Pour browned butter over the mashed potatoes and garnish with the chopped chives (optional). Enjoy!
Notes
Equipment for these Ultimate Mashed potatoes:
- Slow cooker I prefer to use my large seven quart slow cooker for a bigger batch of mashed potatoes like these ultimate mashed potatoes.
- Hand mixer You could also use a potato masher, but I find using the hand mixer to take less effort and it produces the same desired creaminess.
- Measuring cup I like to use a measuring cup to measure out the milk needed for these mashed potatoes. It is nice to have a measuring cup with a pour spout for less mess while adding the milk a little at a time to these mashed potatoes.
- Measuring spoons Measuring spoons are nice to have for measuring out the salt and chives (if using).
Try serving these potatoes with Quick and Easy Gravy and Cheddar & Bacon Green beans. Or try these family favorites as main dishes to these ultimate mashed potatoes:
- Stuffed whole chicken (slow cooker)
- Amish bread stuffing (slow cooker or baked)
- Pineapple citrus glazed ham (slow cooker)
- Swedish meatballs (slow cooker)
- Barbequed meatballs (slow cooker or baked)
- Family favorite meat loaf (slow cooker)
- 3 ingredient pork and sauerkraut.
How do I know how much milk to add to these ultimate mashed potatoes?
Potatoes done in the slow cooker soak up more moisture than if they are boiled. Normally I use around a cup of milk for my Amish style Mashed Potatoes, but for these crock pot potatoes it only took 1/2 cup. I suggest adding milk only until you reach the consistency that is right for you and yours.
Why is my crockpot taking so long to cook these potatoes?
Newer Crock Pots tend to cook hotter and faster, so if you have an older Crock Pot allow for at least 4.5- 5 hours on High.

I love the fact that I don’t have to worry about my potatoes cooking over and making a mess if I do them in the crockpot!

My family really enjoyed these potatoes with the added garlic, chives and browned butter. We will definitely be having these again!
Storage options for these ultimate mashed potatoes:
These mashed potatoes can be refrigerated if tightly covered, for up to 5 days. Do not allow these mashed potatoes to be left at room temperature for more than an hour or 2 to prevent harmful bacteria from forming. These mashed potatoes also freeze well and can be frozen in an airtight container for up to 3 months.

This recipe is a game changer in our house. We used to never eat mashed potatoes because I didn’t have time to make them. Now I can make these at lunchtime and finish them off at dinner time. I love using the chicken stock cubes for extra flavor. Thanks, Marilyn!
I’m glad you enjoyed them!
