2 3/4-3cups flour All purpose or bread flour, see notes below.
Toppings (optional)
2 tablespoonsbutter melted
several dashes garlic salt or garlic powder
Pizza Toppings (optional)
Pizza or marinara sauce
pepperoni
shredded mozzarella cheese
mushrooms
cooked, loose sausage
cooked and crumbled bacon (additional topping ideas below)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 450 (at last 10 minutes of resting time).
Whisk yeast, warm water, sugar and salt together. Allow to rest for ten minutes for the yeast to activate.
Stir in the oil, then transfer the bowl to your stand mixer (you can also mix the flour in with a whisk-spoon, one cup at a time, then knead for ten minutes or so until soft and pliable). Add one cup flour, then mix on low to medium speed until the flour is well incorporated. Continue with the next 1 3/4 to 2 cups of flour until the dough is no longer sticky and is soft and pliable.
For a thick crust pizza, allow the dough to rest for 30-40 minutes (skip the rise time if you prefer a flat crust). Meanwhile preheat the oven and grease a large rectangular cookie sheet with olive oil or cooking spray (we love the olive oil crust, as it gets a nice crisp on the bottom of the crust), then roll the dough out and place onto the greased cookie sheet.
Brush garlic salt/powder and melted butter onto pizza dough (this step is optional but delicious). Assemble your favorite toppings onto pizza, starting with the sauce. Bake for 25-30 minutes, until crust has fully baked in the center (baking times may vary). Cool for ten minutes, then Enjoy!
Notes
If you prefer, you can also par-bake the pizza crust on a heated pizza stone before adding toppings. This crust also works well for grilled pizza!
