Equipment

  • sauce pan (linked below)
  • Whisk (linked below)
  • Measuring cup with a pour spout (linked below)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups chicken or beef broth
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch heaping *see note

Instructions

  • Place broth and salt in a small saucepan and whisk to combine. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • Whisk together cornstarch and enough water or broth to create a thick slurry. Remove boiling broth from the heat and rapidly whisk in the cornstarch slurry.
  • Return gravy to the stovetop and bring to a slow boil over medium heat for a few minutes until thickened, whisking constantly.
  • Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

If you wish to thin the gravy, you can return saucepan with the gravy onto heat and whisk in additional broth as needed. Once well incorporated and the preferred consistency, remove from heat.
If the gravy is too thin you can add an additional 1/2-1 tablespoon of cornstarch whisked into equal parts water to create a slurry. Bring the gravy back to a boil and cook until thickened. Note* Gravy will also thicken some as it cools.
