While we were Old Order Amish, my Mom would make a creamy chocolate mousse pie with a flaky homemade pie crust to serve to her customers in her catering business. This recipe for Oreo Chocolate Mousse Cups uses the chocolate filling from our family’s favorite chocolate pie and pairs it with crushed Oreos and whipped cream for a quick and easy treat that also looks elegant enough to serve to your guests or family for special occasions!

Notes
Equipment needed for these Oreo chocolate mousse dessert cups:
- Saucepan A small saucepan is my preference to use for melting the chocolate with milk. Microwaving the chocolate until it is melted and smooth is also an option, but be careful not to let the chocolate get too hot.
- Dessert cups Small glass dishes or a trifle bowl can be used to hold this pretty layered dessert.
- Stainless steel measuring cups I prefer to use my stainless steel measuring cups and spoons to measure out the ingredients needed for the chocolate mousse.
- Hand mixer A hand mixer is useful for whipping the cream cheese and sugar with the melted chocolate mixture until it makes a creamy chocolate mousse.

Ingredients needed for these Oreo chocolate mousse cups: melting chocolate, milk, cream cheese, granulated sugar, crushed Oreos and whipped topping. It’s so simple!

Step 1-2: Melt the chocolate with 4 tablespoons milk over medium heat, stirring frequently. Allow to cool for 5-10 minutes, then stir in the remaining milk. Chill the chocolate mixture until cool to touch and thickened. Mix the cream cheese and granulated sugar with a hand held mixer. Pour in the cooled chocolate and milk mixture.
Before mixing cream cheese and sugar:
Be sure to allow the cream cheese to soften before mixing it with the granulated sugar. Cream cheese that is still cold will be difficult to mix and will leave more lumps in the filling. In a pinch I will microwave my cream cheese for about 10-20 seconds until it is soft enough to mix well.

Step 2 continued: Mix the chocolate mixture with cream cheese mixture until well blended and smooth. Fold in 8 ounces of cool whip, combining again until the mixture is creamy and smooth.

Step 3: Layer crushed Oreos, chocolate filling and whipped topping in small dessert cups or in one large trifle bowl. If needed, more cool whip or crushed Oreos can be added. Serve immediately or keep refrigerated for up to 24 hours. For best results assemble immediately before serving. Enjoy!
Storage tips for these chocolate mousse dessert cups:
Although these dessert cups are still delicious after a day or two in the refrigerator, for best results you may wish to keep the components of these dessert separate until you are ready to serve. The chocolate mousse can be prepped ahead and kept in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. The Oreos can be crushed and kept at room temperature in an airtight container or zip-lock bag for a week or more ahead of time.
